The AirPlay bridge does not require you to enter the apple ecosystem at all. It just uses the fact that a lot of AV receivers support AirPlay to make them appear as if they were LMS players. Most of these AV also support UPnP, the benefit of using the AirPlay bridge versus the UPnP bridge is that you'll have synchronization with other SB players but the quality is limited to 44.1/16. In UPnP mode, there is no synchronization, but you can go as far as the player can in term of sample rate / sample size LMS 7.7, 7.8 and 7.9 - 5xRadio, 3xBoom, 4xDuet, 1xTouch, 1 SB2.
