I definitively saw multiple times the uncontrollable scrolling that was always fixed after changing the capacitors. It never went up to a dead display, though. If you remove them, I recommend using the twisting method. It works very well, no removed tracks and is super fast vs un-soldering which is very painful. Use solder paste but soldering iron to re-solder them. Some around the main power have a large ground plane so are a bit more difficult, you might have to add some flux to have a good solder. Another thing, be careful when you solder them back, put them in the right order to leave enough room for easy soldering. Use logic, you'll see that space might be tight if you solder one vs the other.
