Thanks for the advice - particularly putting a shortcut to the home screen for the material skin. That works great.
Not sure I can get it working as a player easily. I did think I might be able to get the iPhone to behave like it is a Airplayer with a different app. But it looks a bit difficult. The other thing I did in Safari was to open to <server>:9000/stream.mp3 This seemed to identify the 'player', but I couldn't get it to play anything.
