Some of the temp difference between 2 similar setups would likely be the firmware.
1) When the board was made, it could have newer firmware 2) If you booted with an updated Raspbian image, it would automatically upgrade the firmware. 3) If you ran firmware update procedures that I posted (Link in the OP) piCorePlayer a small player for the Raspberry Pi in RAM.
