There are fixes / updates in HTTPS handling in more recent versions. It should install on top and preserve settings.
Try proxied anyway - it might resolve it. Unless you are sending slimproto messages direct to the player you will be asking LMS to ask the player to play. If configured to proxy then LMS will do it for you.
