I use a Libratone Zipp portable speaker and Philippes AirPlay bridge. This has the advantage of being quite decent SQ wise and truly portable so isnt left outside. It has an aux in and Bluetooth as well as Airplay so quite flexible. It does sync but I dont generally use it in that way. You could use it via the Aux in conjunction with any SB device (Duet) or a Pi or you could use it with iPeng and Bluetooth. The main issue with the latter option is when you nip indoors for something with your iPhone (and iPeng) in your pocket and out of Bluetooth range.
