Just being analytical. There are three possible sources.

1. OS - e.g. USB port is being put on power save or something. A really
weird possibility is that if you are not using "Localplayer" settings
(i.e. squeezelite playing from network and not directly from file) - a
network interface issue may possibly affect playback. Any message in
Linux log about the USB port such as data errors ?
2. ALSA - various parameters settings are just borderline.
3. LMS/Squeezelite issue 

For LMS/ Squeezelite issues - I'd check on squeezelite log or console
output - depends on how you run it.

ALSA settings. The right settings seems to be trial and error but if the
files you are playing tend to be high sample rate (e.g. 192kHz)  , large
sample size (32bit) rather than 48kHz/16bit- then custom settings may be
useful.

Is the problem anyway predicable (e.g. stop at the same place such as x
secs from the end, 5 mins into track etc., after 3 hours playing, after
playing files of different sample rates) ?
