Well eqMac evidently creates an output device called "MacBook Pro
Speakers (eqMac)". So as a quick test I fired up Sqeezelite with:

Squeezelite -o "MacBook Pro Speakers (eqMac)"

The equaliser works properly. So I feel confident that Squeezeplay can
be configured the same way. Just need to work my way through the steps
described in the first post.
