Thanks everyone - I think you have identified the problem, and some solutions for me to try:

I would rather avoid too many plugins and menu complexity, but it may just be the price I have to pay. I think this is the culprit. I'm based in Southampton in the UK, so probably subject to this. It likely explains the almost complete lack of any non-UK streams in the Radio plugin.
