Genius! The advice about the Squeezelite settings did the trick. I used hwCARD=Tone1,DEV=0. And music poured out of speakers, Bemsha Swing, Miles Davis and MJQ. Beautiful. When I used hwCARD=Control,DEV=0 it wouldn't allow me to launch Sqeezelite. I have another Tone 1 question. There is some advice that the sound can be improved by splitting the USB power and data wires and using a separate power source rather than using RPi. There are a couple techniques for doing this that don't jeopardize Tone 1 warranty. Some say otherwise the Tone 1 emits some noise. So far I am not hearing noise. But it may be because I am so jubilant. Onward!
