If you want to test the "it's the touch" theory, and you don't have another player, you can download squeezelite-X from the windows store, or, pay a couple $ for sb player (if you have an android phone/tablet) or ??? if you have an iphone (??? = help me ipeople :))
I can't remember if you ever said you used your picore player pi as a player, but if you haven't, you could easily do that and use the headphone output for testing. You could also download some public domain music files and try those.
