You get the Pocket PC "hourglass" (spinning circle thing) for a few
seconds when Telcanto first connects. On my system with 530 albums it
takes maybe 5 seconds to download the library. Then when you do
something in Telcanto you get the hourglass again but very briefly, so
if for instance if I expand an artist to see all their albums then when
I hit the "+" button in the library tree then there will be another 1-2
second delay while Telcanto downloads the data.

Telcanto seems to be fairly intelligent about caching however so if I
have been browsing my library and then go to the "Queue" tab to look at
the current queue then I will immediately see the queue as it was when I
last looked (which means the indicator showing the currently playing
track might now be out of date) so you get the hourglass for about a
second while Telcanto updates the info on the currently playing track
and then you'll see the incicator jump to the track that is now the
currently playing track. If you then switch back to the Library tab to
browse your library some more then there will be no delay at all, the
tree will all be cached as it was when you last looked, and Telcanto
will only need to pull more info from the server if you expand the tree
at another artist at which point there is the same 1-2 second delay
while Telcanto gets the extra info it needs to display that artists's
albums.

I hope the above makes some sense but unfortunately unless you know the
Telcanto interface it probably doesn't make total sense. I have to say
that I agree with previous posters, Telcanto is much quicker than the
handheld skin. I had "loss of service" from Telcanto when it broke with
the SlimServer 6.2 revision so for a few weeks I was forced to use the
handheld skin until Telcanto was updated and that really made me
appreciate Telcanto and how much faster it is, especially when browsing
your collection by artist or album.

My main complaints about Telcanto, which have all been voiced to the
author, are:

1) It gets slightly confused if you use ARTISTSORT tags. Basically if
you use the ARTIST tag for the more natural display name (e.g. "David
Bowie") and use ARTISTSORT to enforce the correct sort order (e.g.
"Bowie, David") then your artist list will appear in the order you
expect (i.e. David Bowie appearing under the "B"s) but the alphabetic
tabs at the top of Telcanto's Library screens will not function
correctly. For me this is a significant irritation but not a
show-stopper.

2) I use a Pocket PC dedicated to Telcanto so I would really like the
ability to map hard buttons to important functions so that I could do a
lot of stuff without needing the stylus.

Basically though, I definitely recommend it.
