all of these look good/viable. however, a big question would be do you ever want *different* music in each room? if you wanted the same music, the cheapest solution would be to run it off of one squeezebox with small cheap amps and speakers in every room and then use a speaker switcher or a receiver with multiple zones as you suggested in design 1. if you wanted different music, then you'd want to go the multiple squeezeboxen approach like design 2. design 3 of course is a good compromise..

i think you've selected 3 excellent options and the choice is really based on your projected usage.

if your budget allows, i'd go the 4 squeezebox route..it's the most flexible and if you ever decided to scale down you could sell the extra squeezeboxen on ebay for really cheap to someobody, like, say, me!

Subject: [slim] Advice needed on an audio design for a new floor

This may be a little off-topic, but this really is about SlimDevices ;-)

Let me preface this by saying I am not an audiophile. I enjoy listening to music all day, but a 6 year old amp still "sounds good to me". I can't even tell the difference between an 256 MP3 and FLAC with the equipment I use.

Problem: I am putting in a new floor in my apartment, and need some advice for a SB3 configuration.  The floor has three rooms and a deck, so four "zones" for sound. I would like to have separate speakers in each zone, so that I can have separate music volumes in each space.

Design 1: Have a single SB3 that connects to a single amp, that powers speakers in all 4 zones. Each zone's speakers would have their own volume control. But, this means only one music stream for the floor, and one centralized control (read: remote) for the floor. And a amp that can support 4 zones.

Design 2: Have multiple SB3s. Perhaps one for every zone. Then a small amp for each zone. That would solve the volume issues, and the SB3s could be "synced" if I wanted to same music in all rooms.

Design 3: Have 2 SB3s. Each powers two rooms. I would still use 2 amps, but they don't have to have a lot of power and there are only four speakers max that would be in use on any amp.

So my question is, what's the best config how a non-audiophile like me? I'd like to balance a simple-to-use, but reasonably flexible system. Obviously it *has* to be based on SBs. I am very addicted to those ;-)

Comments? Opinions?

TIA,
