I've been considering getting an SB for some time now and am now just about ready to bite the bullet and get the SB3.
Do it, you'll be glad.
NAS solutions etc. - it seems from the posts that most users' music collections can feasibly fit on 2TB. Three questions:
First, why NAS? I can see them as attactive if you want to stick your toes in the water, but your questions imply you are going to need a serious solution.
- What are my options if I have around 3-4+TB of lossless audio?
That is a lot of data. Even with 500GB disks, that takes eight for one copy, which exceeds any lightweight power supply or case.
- Presumably Slimserver and the SB3 can only reference one NAS?
As others say, not really. You can use links between storage systems, Same whether you are using a NAS or a real computer system.
- How easy is it to have the music accessible to different SB3's so that my wife can play her stuff in the lounge and I can listen to mine in my study at the same time?
Trivial. My wife and I do it all the time. With that much storage, you have to think seriously about backups. Even a minimal RAID system takes your eight disks to 10 or twelve. Which is orders of issues different than having two or three disks. (I have four disks on my slimserver, but they are old and small). This isn't really a SqueezeBox or SlimServer issue, rather any time you talk about many terabytes, things get serious. -- Pat http://www.pfarrell.com/music/slimserver/slimsoftware.html _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
