How is the quality of the artwork? If on the album details page, they appear to be 100x100 images stretched to 300x300 (pixelated), SS is pulling from tags you didn't know itunes put there. Sometimes files can't automatically be tagged, because the thumb is too big and the padding is too small. EAC adds 4k (possibly 8) padding by default, Itunes ripper is probably undocumented...
I would use a third party app to clear your tags before further debugging.
