This question has been sitting on the Beginner's Forum for several

without an answer, so I'm moving it here. A simple question, I think.
Does Slimserver 6.2.1 require Mac OS X 10.3 or 10.4? If so, is
there an
archive of earlier versions? I need one that runs on 10.2.8.
Many thanks!

My original post:
======
Before buying the great-looking Squeezebox 3 I figured I'd test out
the
Slimserver software on the machine I plan to store music on. I've
installed it, apparently successfully, on an iMac (hemispherical) and
an old beige G3, both happily running OS 10.2.8. When I click Web
Access, though, I get the error 'A connection failure has
occurred' (on
Explorer on the G3) or 'The connection was refused when attempting to
contact localhost:9000' (on Firefox on the iMac).
Perhaps I'm being dumn, and Slimserver is trying to connect to a
nonexistent Sqeezebox?
Or perhaps Slimserver 6.2.1 requires OS 10.3 or 10.4? There's
conflicting info on this: Version tracker says no; the Slim Devices
pages says yes.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Is your firewall turned on? If so, you need to open port 9000, 9090
and 3483.
And to be sure, the computer you are using to connect to localhost:
9000 is the same computer that the slimserver is running on?
If not, you need to use name_or_IP_address_of_the_slimserver_computer:
9000
For example, my normal workstation doesn"t run the slimserver, it is
on a dedicated machine (my old g4 cube - nice & quiet!). The cube's
IP address is xxx.yyy.zzz.64, so to connect to the slimserver running
on that machine, I use http://xxx.yyy.zzz.064:9000
Hopefully one of those will do it...
Allan
