I have had a similar issue occasionally and found it to be down to itunes tagging some albums as compilations when they are plainly not (e.g. A Sense of Wonder by Van the Man.) What then happens is that SS seems to find both the real album and the "compilation" version.
I have however never seen triplicates, and it certainly doesn't happen for each and every album. Have you tried searching for duplicate songs in itunes? (i.e. in the programme itself, not in the music folder.) The only thing that I seem to have in common with other people who have this problem is that I use slimserver in conjunction with itunes. I have dumped and rescanned the library. I have dumped the cache and rescanned. I have let it rescan on its own for a couple days. I have tried every rescan I can think of. Still, three of every song. This seems to be too common of a bug to let it continue for so many people but I still haven't seen a good fix for it nor do I understand what is happening.
