I've upgraded the firmware on my 300GB Qnap and am pleased to say its no longer crashing when copying files.
The shares are still pretty slow (7MB/sec read and write) even over gigabit ethernet. I guess maybe thats normal for this type of device and gigabit ethernet support is more of a marketing thing. I'm still slightly disappointed though. Playback seems to be working well (I'm using FLAC transcoded to WAV) although I do get drop outs if I'm writing to a share at the same time. I'm expecting it to be even better when they release a version of SlimServer where native FLAC works properly. The interface on the Squeezebox is very responsive (as long as I'm not writing to a share). The web interface on the other hand is very sluggish. It takes roughly 5 secs (sometimes even longer) for the Browse Albums page to load. This is even if I'm not playing anything.
