Well, for one thing, if I have david bowie and David Bowie and DAVID BOWIE, yes it would be easy enough for slimserver to turn these into a uniform case (which is what it actually does for sorting purposes, so they will end up adjacent in the lists), but which one would it display? Some artists are very particular about their capitalisation, and you can bet that whatever algorithm slimserver chose, it would be the wrong one in enough cases to be really annoying.
I do appreciate that 10,000 tracks is a lot, though there are some very smart tools out there to help you... mp3tag with regular expressions, for one. In any case, the likelihood is that there are plenty of other errors and discrepancies in your tags, so you will probably be needing to get in there with a tagger anyway. Just my thoughts...
