I have 5 of the Venus DS3 FIrewire/USB enclosures and have been happy with them. They work fine on my Fedora FC4 Linux, Mac OSX, and Windows boxes. It is a safe bet, I am buying them for as long as they are available. They also have a fan, which many of them don't. They stock them at Frys if you are near one.
On the flip side, I advise highly against anything from "Metal Gear" http://shop2.outpost.com/product/4310395?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG What flimsy crap. The construction is shoddy, and the one I had, a spark jumped from the connector to my mac as I was trying to plugin the firewire cable. _Not_ the sort of fire I was looking for from a firewire device... That went back to the store. -Chris On 5/27/06, sl789 <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:
Hi All ! I was wandering if anybody can recommend good 3.5" hard drive enclosure which also would work with Linux. I would like to put my 800CD to FLAC (just bought SB3). I use slimserver on my laptop which works perfectly, but I have only 60G drive. So I am thinking about bying FireWire/USB2 enclosure and Internal harddrive 300/400G capacity to keep it. In the future I hope to use it with this little Linksys NAS whicg can ran slimserver (since Linksys NAS) run Linux I think enclosure shoud have linux driver I checked one (MadDog FireWire/USB2.0) but it doesn't compatibel with Linux I'll appreciate advices -- sl789 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ sl789's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5667 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24261 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
