As the internal walls are plasterboard it is very easy to drop down wiring from above for power connectivity and speakers. Placing into the void would make a very neat solution
I agree that a flush-mounted Squeezebox with a built in keypad and a slot with a door (into which you could store the remote) would be nice, but I don't think you're likely to see it built. People have expressed interest in a Squeezebox that had something along the line of the Audiotron's knob for years.
However, it doesn't look to me like it would be too difficult to put the SB 3 in the wall if you're willing to modify the stand on the back and are handy with a rotary tool.
