You just need to give it clear view of your devices, and avoid manually walking over to a device, and powering it up.  The HELP button fixes this in about 5 seconds as well.

All I know is, the 880 is the first remote I've owned that not only replaced EVERY OTHER remote I have (12 of them), but is also easy enough for the wife to use.

Subject: Re: [slim] Re: Discrete on/off codes for Harmony 880

I like my Harmony 880 remote, but I disagree that it in any way solves problems with devices which don't have discrete on/off codes.  It keeps track, but in my experience, often ends up "out-of-sync" with the devices which don't have discrete codes.

That's what makes the Harmony remotes special - it tracks the state of
each component and switches them on and off as needed, whether or not
you have discreet codes. So if I go from Watch TV to Watch DVD it knows
to switch the cable box off and the DVD player on, and flip the inputs
on the video switcher and amp. I don't have discreet codes for any of
those actions, but it knows what to do - and that's without me
programming any macros.

If you DO have discreet codes things can work a little more smoothly
(if a device gets it's state out of sync with what the remote thinks it
is then you can get in a mess) but in 99% of cases it works fine
without.
