Because the commands are processed on the SN server.  The SB is a slim
device and cannot process commands on its own, not even on/off or
volume adjustments.

So if there's a server load issue, the commands will get queued up, the
unit will freeze (although playback should still work) and all the
queued commands will be executed when the server has time.  This is
certainly annoying but SN load issues are usually addressed quickly.
