Actually, I always thought what you suggest (a device that works great) is what Slim is aiming for. They're just doing it the open source way. That is, all of us who buy it in the past and now are helping to create a better product. Yes, it's frustrating at times. But they (meaning both those on the payroll and the community) are, in my experience, amazingly responsive.
How often am I able in this world to actually change a product based on my input? Not very. And I value that ability highly.
