First of all I have to say I love my SB3, great product.

I saw different discussions on the forum about DAAP support for SB3.
One given argument was "it only interests itunes users, it's useless to
the free software community". But there's plenty of excellent pieces of
free software that use DAAP sharing by now : Banshee (my favorite),
Rhythmbox, Quodlibet...

I would really appreciate to use only one music reader on my laptop
whereas I have to use 2 at the moment : Slimserver when I want to use
the SB3, Banshee when I'm not at home.

So my question is are there any plans for supporting DAAP sharing
directly, just like Roku Sounbridge does ? My goal is to share my music
using, let's say, Banshee and to be able to read it from SB3 without
using Slimserver.

I emailed this question to slimdevice support and got this answer :
"The Squeezebox and Slimserver were designed to work hand in hand.
Much of the functionality the Squeezebox offers is actually managed
through Slimserver. I'm not aware of any plans to make changes such
that Slimserver is no longer needed."

Which is not really true as SB3 already works without Slimserver whent
it comes to
SqueezeNetwork. Offering the possibility to use something else than
Slimserver would be of great interest in my opinion and experience. If
I'm not alone, I would be glad to know :)
