No, you're not the only one. I find the remote pretty basic but it does the job. I'd rather not pay for an upgraded version especially when it can be replaced with a universal remote so easily. Outlaw Audio has the same approach - provide the most basic remote that does the job to keep the cost low. If the user wants a better remote, there are multiple universal remotes that will do the job. I use a Marantz RC1400 that came with my receiver. Works perfectly.
