Well... I wanted to add: "if you don't know, you're using the binary".

There's an executable available which is compiled for Windows. But you could run the server using a perl interpreter (as is done on Linux and similar systems). But on Windows you'd have install ActiveState Perl yourself to do so. If you don't know what this is, you surely didn't :-9.

My collection is quite reasonable in size, some 8600 songs.

This really sounds reasonable. Shouldn't be a problem for slimserver.
