I run XP on my server box and the best thing I did was to install ActiveState's perl and run Slimserver in a command line window.. I tend to run it with the --d_server switch so I can see if it's not a happy bunny quite easily.. I run it from a .bat file too which re-invokes it up to 3 times if it crashes.. Also, turn off indexing, firewalls, screensavers, updates and all that fancy XP stuff that just eats up memory and CPU.. If you're not using 6.5 yet, it's worth doing that..
