It's not a biggie for me, I use Firefox, where the pages also seem to have changed views (smaller font?) - but for other people in the world using a laptop with res of 1024 X 786 as a main PC, who like to pull around their windows, this might appear a little hokey...
Use the Handheld skin if you want something space saving. Runs easily in 320x240 pixels - should be fine on your laptop, too. You'll loose the two pane window, but it's otherwise very similar to the default skin.
