The compilation album thing is a known "problem". You can search for it in the forums.
In essence, there is no good way to handle compilation albums without flagging them explicitely as compilations. Prior versions of Slimserver guessed. They weren't bad at guessing the common cases, so if you had only the common cases, it seemed to work well. But there are other cases which don't work so well (IIRC, collaborations). Slimserver got out of the guessing game, and now you have to tag collaborations. There are a number of threads about all this, including how to do this with all the popular mass taggers. It's really not a problem - it's a 5 minute cleanup of your library. There was also talk about having a "compatability switch" but I don't know if this got off the ground.
