I've been doing this for years. My first SlimServer was an ancient PC too slow to run Warcraft on. Maybe it ran Warcraft 1, but not Warcraft 2, StarCraft, etc. I thought it was a great use for an old crock machine. Put it in the basement, ignore it. Play music with my slim boxes all over the house.

The idea of having only one or two computers in a house is too weird for me to consider.

A SlimServer box can skip the video card, fancy case, lights, etc.
No need for a DVD burnder, etc. Just use any old CPU and a half gig or more of RAM, and be done.

Plus it gives you more reasons to install Ubuntu, Fedora, Mandriva, etc over top of evil Windows.

Running a SlimServer on a desktop is possible, but why do it?
