Even with the above suggestion to "Kill the amount of RAM Firefox uses
for it's cache feature" I can still watch FF growing at a really quite
phenomenal rate. It's at 230MB at the moment and I've only had it
running for about 4 hours.
What extensions are you using? My Firefox is usually between 100 and 150 MB, with Searchbar Autosizer, Download Manager Tweak, TabX, and Session Manager. I average 4-10 open tabs.
