I'm wondering if you're running 6.5 on Windows? And if so, is your machine configured to download install Windows/ Anti-Virus updates.
Microsoft are always badgering me to turn on Automatic updates, but I don't like the idea of this stuff installing without my knowledge. I'd be particularly careful about AV updates as 6.5 is sensitive to Anti-Virus programs which don't like the .myi files used by MySQL. The only thing I can think of is that some updateto your system overnight has borked Slimserver.
