I'm surprised you get so little in your log. If the initial part of the scan process is working, I'd expect to see pretty verbose logs with d_scan set. Another flag that may be worth trying is d_artwork. It might also be worth trying to reinstall slimserver (sledgehammer approach in the absence of other inspiration!).
