As a new Squeezebox purchaser (who has not received their SB yet thanks to UPS losing it), I'll tell you why I chose SB over the Roku.
Roku was an interesting visual hardware design. And that's about it. Since debut they have stagnated and released only lower-end updates to their product line. The use and success with their product relies heavily on the work of Slim Devices and the dozens of contributors to Slimserver (ok, I suppose there may be some contributors who are Roku users). The strength of a music player is in its software. It doesn't matter what the hardware looks like in person nor on paper. If the software is bad, it will stink. Case in point: every single consumer audio product from Creative Labs, including their terrible WiFi music streamer, SoundBlaster Wireless. If someone already has a Roku product and using it with Slimserver, there's really no reason to go with another Roku. Get a SqueezeBox 3. I can understand balking at the home-made looks of the original SB products, but the SB3 is easily one of the nicest-looking pieces of audio gear around. Very understated and contemporary - a timeless design that I'm sure will still look fresh in 5 or 10 years. -- MelonMonkey Bruno *'Twisted Melon - Fine Mac OS Software' (http://twistedmelon.com) | 'mira - Personal Control for your Apple Remote' (http://twistedmelon.com)* ------------------------------------------------------------------------ MelonMonkey's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8466 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=29770 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
