Folks- I am a newbie but I have spend about 8 hours between yesterday and today trying to fix all the issues I have been experiencing since upgrading to 6.5
Prior to this upgrade I was running 6.3.1 (since August 06) with not a single problem or crash (maybe I was due)......since upgrading I experienced the following things: - Server constantly hangs and the SB turns itself off. It seems completely random, but one or the other (or both crash within minutes of re-booting either the server or turning on/off the SB (or both) to get them talking again which does not last long. - a "connecting...." message that never ends on the SB after re-initialization - a blackout on the SB device (cannot power on using remote)...only way to get it back is to unplug - periodic loud electronic noise during breaks between songs - dead air for about 3 seconds in the middle of music (usually happens right before a crash) The server is running on dedicated XP Pro machine - and I am using a SB3 with SS6.5.1 (downloaded again today) Here is the route I took to get to the problems: 1.) Original install (Aug 06) - Install 5.3.1 2.) First Upgrade (Nov 10, 06) - upgrade to 6.5 (* note - did NOT delete SS directory during upgrade) 3.) Experience all sorts of problems outlined above 4.) Uninstall 6.5 AND delete slim server directory and then install 6.5.1 5.) Experience all the same problems.... After reading some other posts on the forum and seeing lots of the same/similar issues - I uninstalled 6.5.1 and re-installed the last night's version .... same problems...ugh! I read some more posts some of which suggested to roll back to 6.3.1 which was the original version I was using....voila! Its been up and running solid for a 3-4 hours now - no issues. BTW- I couldnt find 6.3.1 anywhere online but I had a copy on a backup tape that worked from my original install. So what I did to get it back working was: 1) Uninstall SlimServer 6.5.1 using windows add/remove programs feature 2) Manually delete the SlimServer directory (usually found under Program Files) 3) Reboot 4) re-Install 6.3.1 5) Reinstall plugins and manually restore SS config settings Sorry I dont have a solid 6.5.x sucess story but I am happy for now.
