This isn't required, just good advice.

It means SlimServer is 1/2 brain-dead and doesn't logically handle the
situation where there are both id3v1 and id3v2 tags on mp3 files.  It's
also possible to have APE tags along with the above two, which throws it
for an even bigger loop.  Unlike most software, SlimServer doesn't merge
the different types of tags, instead preferring one over the others, and
often throwing out much of your tagging information.

For instance, in your tag editor or another program you might see an
artist name from the id3v1 tag, while it's blank in the id3v2 tag.  It
may not be apparent to you, and it looks like you have a complete set
of tags.  But SlimServer will read only the id3v2 tag and throw away
the id3v1, leaving you with no artist.

So, unless you _really_ need both id3v1 and id3v2 tags, and can be sure
they contain the same information, you should just play it safe and
delete id3v1 tags from mp3s.
