It seems I was shipped the wrong one, but I've been messing with it anyway until I work out the problems with the seller.
Yes, it has a cooling fan and hard drive, and produces about the same noise level as a laptop. It seems very nice for slimserver control, mainly to put together playlists or to browse the collection. It can be put into suspend mode where all the noisemakers shut down. It takes about 3 seconds to suspend and about 8-10 seconds to wake up again. I think for playing one song, the IR remote still rules, unless your room is so big or your eyes so bad you can't see the SB3 display. However, if you can't see the display, or want the player located out of sight, the tablet works well. Once I get the problems straightened out with the seller and spend a lot of time with the thing I'll do a more detailed report. In the meantime, I'm trying to figure out how to get cover art to display on it.
