Here's how pcutmp3 is supposed to work.  It sounds like it's embedding
the appropriate LAME data, but I might be misunderstanding something:

Andy, pretty sure I've rescanned everything since installing 6.5.1. 
I'll try running SlimServer with debugging on when I get home.
