You could connect the SB directly to your laptop with a crossover cable and manually configuring the IP address on both devices. Any address configuration will do as long as they're both on the same subnet and don't have the same IP address. Some standard RFC 1918 addresses like 192.168.0.x with a netmask of 255.255.255.0 will work fine.
