Well, I think I am making progress...maybe. I uninstalled Slimserver as you described. Then I downloaded 6.5.2 and tried to install it for just myself. The install would fail immediately. If I chose to install it for all users, it would succeed but when I try to start Slimserver, you guessed it, it starts and then immediately stops.
