This may be something for a plugin, but let me describe my ideal media player, which I was able to do with winamp.. sans the nice display of the SB3.
Music is arranged in albums, and the albums are in order one after the other so that when one album finishes the next starts, this is a single flat playlist. Then I can switch between random and consecutive playback of tracks.
