I'm not sure where this thread is heading at, but why don't you just plug an extra soundcard in your PC ? (e.g. a cheap SoundBlaster card from eBay). I have a very similar setup with the onboard soundchip just plugged to the speakers of my monitor, but have an extra high-quality soundcard which is plugged in into my mixing desk. Set the internal soundchip as default such that the Windows blips go to your small desktop speakers.
