Someone else may come along with a better answer, but I'm pretty sure the answer is no with one exception. That is (assuming the file is in the directory/subdirectories pointed to in the SB server settings) you can browse/music folder to the song.
This situation would happen when you've recently ripped/acquired new music files and haven't yet done a scan to pick up new music. Browsing to the file will also add the song to the SS database at the same time. This can be done from the remote. You can also do it using the web interface from a machine not running Slimserver if both are on the network and there isn't any security getting in the way.
