The above quote indicates that eventually (when?) you won't have to buy the controller if you just want to get a new receiver. As was mentioned in the sticky announcement by someone, there should be no technical reason why you can't set up the new receiver with a ethernet cabled computer and then uncable it to put it where you want in your wifi environment.
