Thanks for your tips. When I use the local IP's, all is speedy and works just fine. the reason I tried to use the external IP from home was simply to test it out before going to work.
When I tried this at home I got so bad performance it would not work. But (here is the weird thing) when I tried it from work, it worked straight away, with much snappier perfomance. Go figure.
