With an impending company car change I've been wondering about the all
important audio system in the new one. In the past it's been the
ripping out of factory radio and fitting some sort of after market
radio complete with autochange ( the last one doing MP3 tracks as well
). I did think of mounting an SB3 unit in some sort of cradle on the
dash figuring that it would look like a sat-nav display if spotted by
police, but of course would have to be hidden from view when leaving
the vehicle and thus also risk a thief breaking in seeing the empty
cradle. In the UK sat-nav theft is quite common, I've heard.
With the Receiver unit though you could discreetly hide it behind the
dash with perhaps a light-pipe for the Status led on display.
The Controller could sit in a cradle like an iPod or phone and any
passing felon would not normally expect to find the aforementioned
portable devices left hidden in the vehicle when the cradle is empty. If
a wired connection to the radio ( the Pre amp in) is not possible then
maybe an FM modulator, this also opens up the possibly of putting song
title info modulated on RDS (Radio Data) so the radio itself can
display the information.
