Depends on your definition of small, but I've recently put an
AudioSource Amp 100 in my new kitchen setup. It claims to be 50 watts /
channel, or can be used in bridged mode to provide 150 watts mono. The
auto-sensing on input signal works great, and the price is right at
around US$100.

Edit: I forgot to mention that the AudioSource sounds quite good, too,
although the speakers aren't exactly high-end (Polk RC60i in-ceiling).
Another amp to look at is the Parasound Zamp, which gets great reviews.
It's considerably smaller than the AudioSource, but the price is around
$300.
