The images size doesn't matter that much, as resized versions are cached on SC7. But if you really want to display _hundreds_ of albums, the transfer of hundreds of files will take its time. And processing the images before caching them will also need considerable CPU power and memory. Most of my artwork files are below 300x300 pixels.
