After examining several whole house audio solutions, I'm currently down to looking at either going with an Airtunes + iPod Touch running Remote Buddy solution OR a Squeezebox + iPod Touch running iPeng solution (plus possibly a MediaPro + PS3 option in the home theater room).
My all important question is whether or not the iPod Touch with iPeng will work with the new Duet receiver or not without a Duet Controller. I know it will work with the Squeezebox 3 unit, but it's 2x as much than the receiver by itself and has a display that wouldn't be needed with either the iPod Touch or the Duet Controller. All the posts I've been reading either "guess" it will work or aren't stating it precisely enough. I thought I read somewhere that the new Duet currently ONLY works with the Duet Controller, so I really need a definitive answer. Obviously, the iPod Touch has a LOT more potential for utility (full browser, e-mail, movie playback, iPod functionality plus ability to buy more applications in the future) than the Duet controller and it costs LESS so I think I'd MUCH rather have an iPod Touch (only down side I've seen is the battery is not easily user replaced on the iPod Touch). So will I be able to buy just the Duet receiver and an iPod Touch and use Squeeze Center on my PowerMac to serve it? Or will I need a Duet controller? The price differences are significant versus the two systems (Airtunes versus Squeezebox) plus Airtunes has the advantage of being able to run Apple DRM AAC files if I were to buy some from the iTunes store in the future (currently it will only be running 300+ CDs stored in Apple Lossless encoded from iTunes).
